McCain and Obama on Abortion - A Missouri Voter Weighs the Facts

Abortion is a local hot button issue here in Missouri, so as a Missouri voter, I decided to do some research to understand where each 2008 presidential candidate stands on the issue. Personally, while I could never have an abortion myself (unless it meant saving my life-I do have three living children), I would not take that choice away from others, for two reasons.

First, I believe that if one is the victim of incest, rape, or molestation in any form that results in a pregnancy, the woman should have the right to decide not to carry that child. Second, I believe that abortions will continue to happen even if it becomes illegal, so I would prefer that a safe and legal procedure is available. You never know, one of your own loved ones may resort to an illegal abortion if the legal procedures aren't available-and wouldn't you rather "not know" about a safe legal abortion than find out your loved one had an illegal abortion and was seriously injured or even killed?

Now, let's discuss the candidate's views on abortion.

Barack Obama on Abortion

First, let's start with Obama's voting record on this issue. In 1998, Obama supported Roe v Wade. He later also voted against prohibiting minors from crossing state lines in order to obtain an abortion. He also voted no on requiring abortion centers to notifying parents when minors receive out of state abortions. He supported a bill to increase funding for embryonic stem cell research, which some say is a vote to support abortion.

In 2005, Obama voted yes to a one hundred million dollar plan to reduce teen pregnancy through education and providing contraceptives. In 2006, he supported a bill to provide contraceptives to low-income women for free to help them take control of their bodies and avoid unwanted pregnancy. He also voted in 2007 to ensure access for low income families to free contraception.

Now, let's discuss Obama's personal views on the subject. First, Obama feels that there is a middle ground between the pro-life and the pro-choice camps. He also feels that it's important to continue to educate our children on abstinence as well as contraception. He has said that he has no problem with law-makers restricting partial birth abortions at the state level, but that he thinks the mother should have the ability to make that decision ultimately. I disagree with this last statement-I think that a partial birth abortion should never occur unless the mother's life is at risk.

Obama points out that stem cell research promises to cure more than 70 currently incurable diseases, and this point is one with which I cannot legitimately argue. And most recently, Obama stated that he personally could not determine the point at which a fetus becomes a baby, alluding to the fact that he believes that's a choice only God could make.

Bottom line on Obama, he is officially "Pro-Choice", according to the NRLC votes.

John McCain on Abortion

Again, we'll start with McCain's voting record on abortion.

McCain voted to repeal Roe v Wade in May of 2007. He voted yes to denying grant money to facilities which perform abortions, and yes to requiring parental notification for minors receiving out of state abortions, as well as yes to making it illegal to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion. He also voted no to the one hundred million dollar plan to reduce teen pregnancy by education and providing contraceptives. He would ban all partial birth abortions, except those which would save the mother's life. Here is an area in which McCain and I agree.

He voted yes to banning military base abortions. He also supported banning human cloning, but he voted yes on expanding embryonic stem cell research.

As far as his personal views go, he does worry that if abortion is made illegal, women would continue to get illegal abortions, and he agrees that victims of rape and incest should have the right to choose an abortion. These are points on which I agree with McCain.

He feels that if abortions become illegal, we should prosecute the abortion doctors, not the women getting the abortions. He says that if his own daughter wanted an abortion, he would have a "family conference" to discuss her options.

Bottom line: While he is voted "Pro-Life" by NARAL, he is voted "mixed record on abortion" by the NRLC.

Abortion - No Time To Say Goodbye

Sadly to say there are times when we have to lose a life to save a life when a decision is made to terminate a pregnancy. An early termination is known as an abortion. There are people who strongly oppose abortions but unfortunately when it is a matter of life or death then there is no argument to fight.

Are you left traumatised by feelings of remorse after going through the experience of an abortion or are you hurting on the inside because you had no time to say goodbye to the little one. Then remember heaven is a big place so baby will not be alone.

It is a big decision for any woman to have to make so listen carefully to all the reasons given for why the proposal of an abortion has been suggested. This will help you understand matters better.

Having an abortion does not affect you conceiving future babies but it can if you don`t regarding the circumstances on your health issues.

This is the 21st century where so much help and advice is at hand but still the numbers are on the increase with unwanted teen pregnancies. Girls why put yourself through all the pain and heartache that comes with making decisions on abortion - unlike some unfortunate mothers where their choices were zilch

Abortions are legal under 24 weeks in the areas of Scotland England and Wales if agreed upon by two doctors who believe the health of mother could be affected seriously should the pregnancy be allowed to continue to go the full term.

Crucial elements that will be considered by the doctor before finalizing any decision on aborting the pregnancy are major issues like the woman`s mental stability and physical well being where permanent damage can be done. If there are signs that baby may be born with a serious handicap then this is another reason why a woman may agree to a termination.

Remember the earlier you address the situation the easier it is to for any matters to be conducted appropriately for the abortion to take place. However even though the legal system states 24 weeks the sooner the better - this will help ease stress and pressure. Appointments for abortion clinics can tail back to at least two to four weeks.

We have two methods of abortion one is the medical abortion- known as the abortion pill. This procedure is carried out in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy and does not engage any surgery. The patient is given a tablet (mifepristone) a second tablet (prostaglandin) is inserted into the vagina approx 36 to 48 hours later. These two pills can end most pregnancies in about four hours.

The vacuum aspiration - known as the suction is the other method performed in theatre where the woman will under go a general or local anaesthetic.

The entrance to the womb (cervix) is lightly stretched to permit a tube to pass through. Once the tube is inserted it only takes about 60 seconds to remove by suction. Recovery after surgery in healthy women is not long roughly about an hour (if no complications).

It is common for a woman to experience some discomfort and bleeding for a few days after the abortion. You will be given just as much advice after the abortion as you were before going in for treatment.

If you are trying to come to terms with a loss or about to go through the experience of one then please be strong.

The open wound of heartache heals itself after a matter of time but it is the mental scar that stays with you for ever. Remember not to beat yourself up over the decision you made if it were the right one. How do you know if it was the right decision or not, well that is easy, it was when you realized god was at your side?

If mental anguish still prevails, then to help ease your mind body and soul talk with a yoga master. They do not have the cure but they certainly can help sedate your way of thinking in easing any displeasing thoughts that you have.

You are not alone in a world of emptyness after an abortion, To gain back the positive side to your life http://www.want2yoga.com Anxiety and stress matters on my health page at http://www.benidormbeaches.com

19th Century Abortions

History shows that abortion has always been a controversial issue. Though it has been practiced for centuries, it has never been universally accepted as an appropriate option for dealing with an unwanted pregnancy. Most people are opposed to it for moral reasons, and this opposition has always been widespread and not been limited to particular religions or time periods in history. Abortion in the 19th century was no exception, and Christian women, Native Americans, and women from all classes of society relied on termination to relieve themselves of unwanted pregnancies. Though many of these cases were kept secret and some of the details are sketchy, there are some clear facts regarding the matter.

What methods were used? Women seeking abortions in the 1800s had several options: herbs/plants, surgery, poison, even mail-order pills. For women living on the East Coast in a more urban setting, abortions were much easier to obtain. Accessing poison and pills could be as easy a simple trip to the pharmacy. Surgery was a bit more difficult, due in part to the dangers it posed. Any surgical procedure during this time period was fraught with risk as medicines, anesthesia, and even the skill levels of most physicians were rudimentary. In rural America and among Native Americans, herbal methods were often used. Plants such as snakeroot, cohosh, tansy, or Seneca were commonly relied upon to terminate a pregnancy. In some cases, women opted for seemingly bizarre methods that held no scientific proof that an abortion would be successful. Rubbing gun powder on the breasts, drinking tea made with rusty nails, or soaking in hot baths were all tried. Clearly, there were plenty of options for terminating an unwanted pregnancy; some were successful, some were not, and some were just downright crazy.

How did 19th century society view abortion? For the first half of the 19th century, abortion was legal and was in fact openly advertised as an alternative to carrying an unwanted child. It wasn't until the latter half of the century that people began to view the practice differently. Up until this time, midwives and other women had typically been involved in this part of female life - both childbirth and abortion. But the mostly male physicians of the mid-1800s began to feel threatened by this and wanted to monopolize all medical practices. They launched a campaign to criminalize abortion on the grounds that it was immoral and dangerous, and should only be performed by licensed physicians for special cases. Laws were passed making abortion illegal after "quickening," or when the woman first felt the movement of her unborn child. Once quickening started, the fetus became a person with a right to life. However, because there was no way of determining precisely when a woman first felt movement, these were difficult laws to enforce. Abortions became even more regulated, and it was increasingly difficult for a woman to obtain one.

Native Americans during this time period also had a strong feeling toward abortion. Though many women practiced it, some tribal leaders were very opposed to termination. Handsome Lake of the Seneca was one who voiced a very strong opposition. A prominent religious leader among the Seneca during the early 19th century, Handsome Lake was a prophet who schooled his people in the evils of alcohol and encouraged confession of sins. His religious ideas included a mixture of traditional Native American beliefs and the recently introduced Christian beliefs of his white neighbors. His teachings, known as The Code of Handsome Lake, include specific information regarding abortion. He was vehemently opposed to the practice; when he received his visions from the Creator, Handsome Lake was told that his people must abandon the practice of abortion.

What the Bible Says About Abortion!

ALMIGHTY GOD, Giver of Life and Creator of man, has revealed to us in His divinely inspired Word a concept of life-affirmation, a restoration of human dignity by God taking on human form - born into this word - through Jesus Christ, His Son, and an ultimate victory of life over death, springing up into life everlasting. Thus, the Apostle John testifies in John 1:4,5: In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

LET US NOW look in specific where the Word of God instructs us to regard and to respect life rather than killing it in the mother's womb and throwing it into the garbage.

First of all, let us start with the creation of mankind and progress further from there to discover the sacredness of the gift of life. On the sixth day of creation the Lord said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it... (Gen 1:26-28). Yes, we are created in God's image, unlike all other creatures. We are God's idea and His work. Therefore, each new life that has been conceived needs to be regarded as a gift of God, created in His image. If we kill the innocent unborn, we are killing the image of God. Environmentalists and animal rights group try to protect species of animal life and they go to extremes to protect certain endangered animals, but do we give the same respect and sense of protection to our preborn and newborn children? Knowing that they are created in the image of God, should we not rather focus on the rescue and the protection of those unborn babies who are right now scheduled for an abortion?

It is not in vain, that the Bible says in the Ten Commandments, Thou shalt not kill (Ex 20:13). This refers most certainly to the precious lives of innocent children. God hates hands that shed innocent blood (read Proverbs 6:16,17). Abortion is one instance where innocent blood is shed. The death penalty is instituted in many states of the US to punish brutal acts of murder. Many people use the 6th commandment to denounce the death penalty, involvement in wars, etc., but they are not willing to apply God's commandment to the massive slaughter of unborn children. This is a terrible double standard, esp. since God so clearly condemns the shedding of innocent blood, whereas the death penalty serves to punish those guilty of homicide (see Genesis 9:6) and war action in self-defense serves to protect and safeguard the homeland (see Romans 13:1-4).It is noteworthy that in the chapter following the giving of the Ten Commandments a special law is given to protect the unborn life in the mother's womb. There it says in Exodus 21:22-24 that, If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. A premature birth as a result of a violent altercation is being punished. But if the women miscarries, i. e. if the unborn child has died in the womb as a result of that altercation, severe retribution is inflicted on the man who inflicted violence on the woman. Even this Old Testament law for the people of Israel reflects God's caring love and supports the notion that human life begins at conception (not at birth or at some time during the pregnancy).

We begin to see that God affirms life. The notion that for some reason a pregnancy can be ended and an unborn life removed from the womb is totaly alien. In fact, the Lord says in Psalm 127:3 that, Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Yes, children are a gift from God. They are a blessing, not a burden. They might become burdensome, if they are not raised in the Biblical way. If children are brought up without the rod, without discipline, without teaching in Christian values, but rather indulging in TV, toys, and other materialistic, secular seduction, then children grow up into unruly tyrants and rebellious haters of everything that is good, holy, and right. But children who are raised with love and discipline, with Biblical values in a godly home, taught in obedience, will be a blessing. Not a burden. Many think that "having children costs too much". But shouldn't you rather consider, if your car or your house costs too much? Do you spend money for cigarettes, alcohol, giant screen TV, 500 channel cable TV, football game tickets, hunting outfit and complain about what it costs to raise children? That's hypocritical and outrageous. Children, created in the image of God, are God's reward and heritage to us. Let us accept them, welcome them, and thankfully receive them into our lives. Always remember that Jesus himself was an unplanned, unwanted, and untimely pregnancy (read Matthew 1, Luke 1). But blessed Mary did not consider some method to "get rid of" the child. Nom she gladly responded to the angel, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. (Luke 1:39) Mary accepted the Christ child that was conceived in her of the Holy Ghost even before she was married to Joseph. If Mary had had an abortion, the Savior never would have walked on earth, nor would he have gone to the cross to die for our sin and rise again from the dead. What, if there never had been our Lord Jesus? There would be no hope for us. Life would be a few days of trouble, and then we were to enter the fires of hell for all eternity. I wonder how many great talents, great leaders, and great people in general have been killed in their mother's womb without ever having had the chance of accomplishing their life's mission or ever seeing the light of this world.

Bearing children is a blessing from the Lord and it is says in Psalm 127:4,5, As arrows are in a hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Our quivers today are not filled with those arrows. The scourge called abortion has robbed the mighty man of his arrows. Promiscuity ravages our land. Children born into out of wedlock relationships - pre-marital or extra-marital - are being put to death. Sexual sins (7th commandment), covetousness (10th commandment) and the sin of murder (6th commandment) amount to these large numbers of abortions since their "legalization" (not legal under God) in the US in January 1973. But the Bible gives us the concept for blessed family life in Psalm 128:3,4, Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The heart of God is pounding for fathers and mothers who will reflect His love to their children. The modern notion that children are unwanted or unwelcome is against God's will. Psalm 113:9 says that, He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord. It is God's calling and planned destiny for women to fill this role of joyful mothers. The idea that an abortion is justified in order to finish college, keep the career, think of the future is selfish, coldblooded, and coldhearted. Where are the joyful mothers who keep house? Women need the courage to step into this God-ordained and blessed role and to forsake the popular ideologies and modern feminist concepts that are basically nothing but devilish deception to lure women away fom the blessing of God that is in store for them. The men who encourage, pressure or in anyway coerce a woman to have an abortion are not worthy to be called men because of the Scripture we mentioned earlier that thus shall a God-fearing man be blessed with a wife and his children (Psalm 128:3,4). He who has no fear of God and forfeits the blessing of God is in danger of having innocent blood on his hands - the blood of his own children that were killed in their mother's womb. The Lord will not hold him guiltless. The Bible tells us exactly what real fathers ought to be like: Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him (Psalm 103:13). The blessed truth that needs to be taught and instilled in men today is that they need to pity - have compassion, have mercy on, show love for - their children. That alone is reason enough to abstain from all lust, promiscuity, adultery, and fornication because the best place for children to be born is within the confines of holy wedlock into a loving and stable home.

By the way, the killing of children is mentioned in the Bible only with reference to idolatry. In Psalm 106:36-39 it says, And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. The heathen worship of the Canaanites involved human sacrifice. Children were sacrificed to their fertility gods. The Canaanite people were an abomination to the Lord and some of the Israelites participated in their idolatry after they entered the Promised Land. That incurred the wrath of God. In the 1st Commandment we are told not to have any other gods. Forsaking the Lord and going after false religions often involves a depreciation of the value of life. The Lord is a life-affirming, life-giving God. Children are a gift from God. This is what Jacob said when he met his brother Esau: And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant. The idea that babies can be killed in the womb of the mother is utterly out of touch with Scripture. The concept of a woman's choice for or against the baby and the "right to abortion" (probably paid for by taxpayers' dollars) is completely foreign to the word of God. Here, life has worth and life is worth living. It is God's will for us to choose life. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19). What will you choose? The right choice is always pro-life. Don't be guilty of the innocent blood of an unborn child. There is no sane rationale for having an abortion. Abortion kills babies, abuses women, and is a sin. Choose life! There are pro-life alternaties to abortion. If the child cannot be raised by the mother or father, it can be given up for adoption. There are parents waiting. Women in crisis pregnancies do not have to go to Planned Parenthood for "help". There are numerous Christian organizations that can help with Christian counseling and solutions that will protect the mother's physical and mental health as well as the baby's life. When studying the Holy Scriptures we can see how God regards the unborn child and begins dealing with it by the Holy Spirit. The following Scriptures let us know that the unborn child is not a "lump of cell", "cell tissue", or a "parasite". It is a person. It is a soul! At the moment of conception all the genetic information for that new person to be born is already present and begins to unfold. Therefore, in the Bible it is usually mentioned that a woman conceives and bears a child. Conception is frequently mentioned (for example Gen. 4:1, 17, 25; Ruth 4:13; Mt. 1:20, Lk. 1:24) as the real start of life. Thus, it is not unusual that the Lord already deals with the unborn child in the mother's womb.

Here is what the prophet Jeremiah says:Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (Jeremiah 1:4,5).While still in his mother's womb, God fashioned Jeremiah for his purpose as a prophet later in his life. What, if Jeremiah had been aborted? The Lord was already sanctifying and ordaining him and then the tools of an abortionist come to destroy this life and its purpose.

Here is what the prophet Isaiah has to say:Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name... And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant... (Isaiah 49:1,5)God placed a special calling on the prophet Isaiah while he was still in his mother's womb. When God formed Isaiah he purposed him to be a prophet. We begin to see what a sacred place the mother's womb is. The cruelties of abortion should have no place in there.

The Psalmist gives thanks to God for being made by his hands:For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my subtance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them (Psalm 139:13-16).Again, we see how God was dealing with the yet unborn child. The Psalmist gives thanks to God for the way he was made. The thought of aborting this fearfully and wonderfully made human child would be totally out of place and an offence against the God who curiously wrought and covered the child in the mother's womb. Isn't it an honor for mothers today to notice that the Lord is at work on the child about to be born soon?

When Mary, the mother of Jesus, went to see Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, the following event is recorded in Scripture:And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb... For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy (Luke 1:41, 42, 44).The baby John was aware of the presence of Mary and Jesus. John was aware of the presence of God coming in the flesh. John the Baptist, while in his mother's womb, was not a "lump of tissue". He was a living soul. Furthermore, it is said about John the Baptist when the angel spoke to his father Zacharias in the temple:For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink, and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb )Luke 1:15).God forbid that we even think about abortion when the Holy Spirit is already dealing with out children. Abortion is a crime against the child, against the mother, but also against God Himself. We do not own this new life. God owns it because he gave it. We are just stewards who will be held accountable for what we did with those precious lives.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived and born into this world. God came in the flesh to sanctify the unit of life we call the family - Mary, Joseph and Jesus. They were not wealthy nor did they have any higher rank in the society. In fact, they come from the poor, rural area of Nazareth in Galilee. Joseph was a carpenter and Mary was espoused to him (not yet married) when the angel announced that Mary was to conceive of the Holy Ghost. Joseph sought to put her away privily because of the untimely pregnancy. But it was revealed to him to stay with Mary and to become the foster-father of the Son of God. It was tax time at the time Jesus was to be born into that humble environment. So Mary, being almost ready to deliver her child, and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem to pay their taxes. There was no comfortable room anywhere, so the child was born near Bethlehem and was laid in a manger. These were difficult circumstances into which Christ was born. But the story of Christ's birth should be an encouragement to all families and to those who are facing crisis pregnancies. Planned Parenthood would have advised Mary to have an abortion because Jesus was unplanned and there was too much troube and too much poverty. But Mary held on to her child because she was aware that God is the Giver of life and that children are a blessing. Thus, in the New Testament we will find the following teachings that completely outrule the option of abortion:Notwithstanding she shall be saved [i.e., kept from deception, transgression] in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety (1. Timothy 2:15).Here we disover the character traits of godly womanhood. If these character traits resurface again today, the abortion clinics would be going out of business. The aged women likewise... that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded (Titus 2:3,4-6).The Bible teaches us a concept of life and family that would make abortion extinct. Mothers have the high calling of becoming keepers at home. It is a disgrace that today's adulterous and materialistic generation does not give those blessed keepers at home the credit they deserve. Our society has subtle socio-economic constraints that force mothers into the job world. It is every Christian politician's duty to remove those hidden constraints from our society so that ONE breadwinner with ONE income can provide for ONE family with the help of ONE homekeeper. Amen! A true revival in America would bring the restoration of the above-mentioned Biblical values. Amen. There is more to revival than just selling "WWJD-bracelets".I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan (1. Timothy 5:14,15).This is some good instruction by the Apostle Paul. Instead of providing abortion as a shortcut out of "trouble", the Word of God encourages us to strive as much as possible to restore orderly family life. A commitment to live sexually pure is the best way to avoid abortion. Once a woman finds herself in a crisis pregnancy she should not be condemned for any reason, but needs to receive compassionate help. There is a lack of such help today. That's why organizations such as Planned Parenthood can prey on these situations and lure women into an "easy" abortion.

Jesus has commanded us to help the those that are considered the least among us. Let us read this in Matthew 25:34-40: Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Serving the least means serving the Greatest, the Lord Jesus, our King. Modern society does not regard the life of the preborn children. Women who need real help are offered to have their child killed in their womb while they suffer from higher risks of cancer and infection as well as depression and other mental disorders resulting from abortion. These women have asked for bread, but all they got is a stone. Jesus gives us the ultimate reason for the sanctity of human life and for the pro-life cause:Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets (Matthew 7:12). This verse of Scripture is also known as the Golden Rule. So, let's apply it. Would you like to be aborted? What, if you had been killed in your mother's womb? Therefore, please don't do it to any unborn child. We can apply the Golden Rule to all aspects of human relationships and we will always find that it is in favor of the preborn child. Would you like to be rejected by all? Probably no. Then, please don't reject any form of life. Did you grow up in a good home with good parents? Then, please pass this blessing on to your own children and don't rob them of the opportunity of having a good home. Would you like to have your neck forced upon with scissors and have your brain sucked out or the limbs of your body plucked off? Probably not. So let us not do that to our preborn children in the womb.

Jesus always welcomed and blessed little children. The modern anti-child mentality of abortion would be contrary to the thoughts and ways of our Lord. Jesus often used little children to illustrate how we can enter into the kingdom of God. Like in Matthew 18:2-6:And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily, I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.Jesus displays an attitude of gladly receiving children. If we receive them, then we receive Jesus. If we reject them, we reject Him. When the people brought young children to the Lord Jesus, the disciples rebuked the people who brought the children as if the Lord did not have time to deal with children, but that displeased the Lord greatly and he said to them: Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them (Mark 10:13-16)The Lord who blesses the little children will not condone the modern-day, murderous abortion ethic. Our Lord is pro-life. Are you?

Finally, let us close this message with the following prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, We come to you in repentance for the gruesome killing of the innocent unborn in our land.Lord,? forgive us of this sin and strengthen us to regard and to respect life. Lord, help us to save lives and touch the hearts of mothers and fathers, So that they will not be guilty of the blood of their own children. Father, extend Your hand of protection to those threatened by abortion, And save them from its destructive power. Bless our families and bless our land, That we may have the joy of welcoming and nurturing the life Of which You are the Source and the Giver. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.? Amen.

Modern society is deceived with such evils as abortion-on-demand or no-fault-divorce. God wants to protect children in true covenant marriages and stable families. Let us establish the unalienable right to life from the holy scriptures.

Abortion - The Complete Picture Of Abortion

To be or not to be! This has always been the burning question for ages. Like wise to abort or not to abort has been the question raging everyone since times in memorial.

What does abortion mean?

Abortion is usually delineated as the release or expulsion of the fetus or the embryo from a woman's body. It can be uncontrolled or involuntary as in the case with Spontaneous Abortions. On the other hand, a planned or voluntary abortion, also referred as Induced Abortion, may be further categorized into two distinct types: Elective Abortion and Therapeutic Abortion. Now, Induced Abortion is a woman's prerogative if she is not in favor of being pregnant or since the pregnancy may jeopardize her mental or physical health.

When questioning, "what is abortion all about", it is very vital to make clear the kind of abortion you wish to talk about. Miscarriage or Spontaneous abortion occurs naturally, as it is a body's way of eliminating something harmful from a pregnant mother. At times, this takes place due to genetic issues or because the fetus is abnormally formed. Medical practitioners normally propose Therapeutic Abortion in pregnancy cases that may cause harm to a pregnant mother.

Personal grounds are usually cited for opting for Induced Elective Abortion. The woman may be of the opinion that she isn't mentally or emotionally prepared for parenthood, or supporting a child would be difficult.

The query 'What is Abortion All About' encompasses various kinds of abortion procedures. Herbal, chemical, and surgical abortion options exist, although herbal abortion is not very dependable and is far more risky. Normally, herbal abortions, today, are not carried out. The most well known and widely preferred abortions are the Surgical Abortions.

Abortions can be carried out, in the first three months of pregnancy, by Electric Vacuum Aspiration (EVA), Dilation and Curettage, or Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA). EVA and MVA procedure employ suction to take out the embryo. EVA makes use of a pump, and MVA employs a syringe to take out the tissue. Curettage and Dilation entails opening up the cervix and a sharp curette is put in to scrape the walls of the uterus.

Afterwards, abortion can be carried out by Hysterectomy, Intact Dilation and Extraction (called partial birth abortion), as well as by means of Dilation and Evacuation. In Dilation and Evacuation, instruments and suction are used to take out the tissue after dilating the cervix. Intact Dilation and Extraction consists of a medical procedure in which the brain matter of the fetus is taken out, so that the head falls down, thus making it far easier to take out the fetus. The Hysterectomy abortion is fundamentally a cesarean section process.

Chemical abortions use drug combinations to effect a pregnancy termination or abortion. Use of Mifepristone or Methotrexate is combined either with Gemeprost, which is regularly used in Sweden and the U.K., or with Misoprostol, which is generally used in the U.S. Majorities of people are unable to obtain this important information when they inquire, 'What is abortion all about'.

'What is abortion all about' also has legal connotations. Many Western nations have made legal the initial period abortions in the initial three months of pregnancy. In the U.S., the Partial Birth Abortion Ban puts paid to the Intact Dilation and Extraction procedure being used in the last trimester of pregnancy, even though this law is at present before the Supreme Court of America, since it makes no provision for the mother's health in the case of Therapeutic Abortion.

The Curious Facts Surrounding Abortion

We speak for the child conceived living in the womb of the mother because soon that child will enter into the world of mankind as a fully developed human being to become a member of the family, a member of a nation, a member of society, totally dependent on the love and care of those around him or her. This child will be the daughter or son of a mother and father and may be the sibling of a brother and or sister, or both. The unborn child has no voice to say that it wants to live, that it wants to be born; however, by its very presence in the comfortable and protected womb of its mother, the unspoken statement is self evident.

The seed that is planted is that which it is and will grow into that which it is to become. A corn seed will grow into a corn stalk and produce corn seeds because the seed is a corn seed to begin with and even though it lies dormant in a gunny sack, maybe even for years, when planted it will become a corn stalk producing corn seeds. When the seed is planted it immediately begins to grow unseen in the moist and wet comfortable earth, protected from the outside elements. If the seed or the sprouting plant is uprooted before its time, it will die. The farmer who planted the seed must take care of the necessary requirements such as watering, fertilizing, and general care of weeding in order for the seed to grow properly and to become a healthy corn stalk.

So, in order to address the curious facts about abortion we have to see who is talking about abortion and why the facts are curious to begin with. Well, those who speak about abortion have not been aborted themselves. Those who speak about abortion are assumed alive and living. Those who speak about abortion speak about instances and circumstances in which abortion neither applies to any or all the situations spoken about at any time.

Those who desire abortion on a whole-sale demand basis, or any such basis simply because they have conjured up reasons and excuses for unbecoming behavior, whatever that may be, know very well that by politicizing this barbarous act, they have taken it out of the arena of truth and the power of the people, and placed it into the deceptive and influential emotional arena of irrational thought and desire.

Aside from the excitable self-righteous issues surrounding abortion, of which each and every soul possess an opinion, it must be realized that aside from the objective truth, all opinions are subjective and therefore wrong, when discussing the issues of abortion. It is a curious fact that those who speak for or against abortion have never been aborted themselves. They may have been at the mercy of being aborted and, by that which we call grace, they were not aborted and so possess the faculties to have opinions and discussions about abortion.

These people are assumed to be alive and living because they were not aborted; however, they feel that they have a right to condemn an unborn fetus simply because they have the power to do so and for no other reason. The reasons they give are subjective, produced in their own mind, and therefore flawed and a form of innate insanity.

Today, mind is held up as an idol because of its subjective feel and deceptive god-like properties. So, people for abortion make up various and sundry excuses to justify the act of abortion. Any one knows that the only control they have over their body is to accept its condition, for the body grows in stages and then it deteriorates until death. During that time, they have the control to seek medical advice to help themselves heal traditionally or non-traditionally. Those who want control over their body in order to abort a fetus really want control over the act of infanticide of an unborn child. A simple poem from AS SIMPLE, SIMPLY SAID read in the light of the above article.

NOT ABORTED

Every day I thank God that I was not aborted.

My biological parents had every motive for it.

Look at all I've done. I was allowed to live.

No one has the power of Life and Death, and

He who thinks so, is unbelievably full of sin.

Abortion - The History Of Abortions

The practice of abortion is by no means a new concept. There has been documented proof of abortion procedures going back for centuries. The history of abortion reaches as far back as the ancient Greeks and Romans who used very frightening and unscientific methods to expel the fetus from the body.

Throughout the centuries, many different herbs were also thought to terminate pregnancy; some were only myths, while others not only terminated pregnancy, but could even be lethal to the woman. Many of these herbs were dubbed "abortifacient herbs". Even sharp objects or extreme pressure on the abdomen were used to terminate pregnancy.

Some common things such as egg, dill, marjoram, thyme, parsley, lavender, and juniper were thought to cause miscarriage. Some of the more lethal recipes, however, consisted of plants such as pennyroyal, Italian catnip, and soapwart. While generally speaking herbal remedies are no longer used today, some cultures still use herbal methods to end pregnancy.

Many of the tools used today in modern surgical procedures take their roots from centuries passed. The curette, a sharp tool used to clean the uterine walls, was developed in France in the 18th century for the purpose of abortion. The method of dilation and curettage has been used since the 19th century as were vacuum-type implements originally used only in Japan and China, until introduced to the United States and Britain.

The legalities surrounding abortions have also always been a dilemma faced by those who sought help.

Clergymen often had to give the stamp of approval for a woman to have an abortion for any reason, and it would often have to be determined if "quickening" had occurred, or if the baby had yet moved.

In the 18th and 19th centuries men began to speak out about abortion which led to the controversy that surrounds it today. Abortion was a taboo well into the 20th century when women used hangers and other sharp objects to cause trauma and miscarry.

While legally abortion is permitted after the findings of the Roe vs. Wade case in 1973, much heated controversy still surrounds the practice, enough so that some extremists are willing to kill to make their point by, in recent decades, bombing abortion clinics and doctors. While the battle still isn't over for the right to abortion, society has made great strides in coming to terms with a women's right to her body.

Risk of Abortion

Abortion is the medical terminology used in a pregnancy. It means removal or discharge of a fetus or embryo from the uterus. It may be resulting into death or any other medical disorder. As such abortion occurs impulsively due to complications during pregnancy. Induction is also quite possible in this case esp. for human being & other species. Human pregnancies, an abortion induced to protect the health of the pregnant female, is termed a therapeutic abortion, while an abortion induced for any other motive is termed an optional abortion.

Generally it is due to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy, while spontaneous abortions are also called miscarriages. Abortion is the expulsion of an embryo or fetus due to unintentional trauma or natural causes before the 22nd week of gestation. According to Medical Science, most of the miscarriages are due to improper duplication of chromosomes; even they can also be caused by some environmental factors. An abortion is considered as elective or optional when it is performed at the demand of the woman "for reasons other than maternal health or fetal disease." Abortion is surrounded by personal reasons especially in elective ones.

Abortion is now performed legally in many developed countries, as it is also the safest procedures in medicine. Experts say, at this case risk of maternal death is between 0.2-1.2 per 100,000 procedures. If we compare the figure, quite interesting as by 1996, mortality from childbirth in developed countries was 11 times greater.

As such, there are two major risks of Abortion

? Mental Health

? Physical Health

Risk on Physical Health

Surgical abortion is normally safe and the tempo of major complications is moderately low. Basically it varies depending on how far pregnancy has progressed & the surgical method been used. Taking concern on the gestational age, the incidence of these complications is maximum after 20 weeks of gestation and lowly before the 8th week. In advanced gestation, it shows higher risk of uterine perforation & retaliation of conception products. Few Possible complications comprise hemorrhage, unfinished abortion, uterine or pelvic illness, continuing intrauterine pregnancy, misdiagnosed/unrecognized ectopic pregnancy, hematometra (in the uterus), uterine puncture and cervical slash. Even the use of general anesthesia also increases the possibility of complications since it relaxes uterine musculature making it easier to prick or perforate.

Risk on Mental Health

No methodical based research has established yet, that abortion is a source of poor mental health in the broad population. Though there are groups of women who may be at superior risk of coping with troubles and suffering subsequent abortion. These factors lie inside woman's life, such as emotional addiction to the pregnancy, lack of communal support, pre-existing psychiatric sickness, and traditional views on abortion boost the probability of experiencing harmful feelings after an abortion. The American Psychological Association (APA) also accomplished that abortion does not lead to enlarge any segment of mental health problems.

The Mendacity of Hope - Barack Obama's Extreme Agenda For Abortion

It has been over 35 years since the controversial Roe v Wade Supreme Court (7-2) decision to make early term abortions legal in the US. Despite the landmark decision in 1973 abortion rights are still being vigorously contested in many quarters of the country. For those against abortion mainly for religious beliefs but also for profound moral reasons argue that abortion as defined by Roe is the willful taking of a precious human life endowed with all the rights, privileges, and protections guaranteed everyone by our government. On the other side those in favor of the right to abortion argue that women should have control over their own bodies making it an issue of privacy; a personal decision that should not be privy to our government. These disparate and contentious points of view underscore the essence of the debate that has been ongoing for nearly four decades and in all likelihood will continue to rage on for the foreseeable future certainly through and beyond the Obama administration.

So where does our newly elected "post partisan" President stand on this inflammatory issue of abortion? As the most liberal democrat while in the US Senate, Obama strongly supports a women's right to choose to terminate her pregnancy for any reason through legal and safe abortion procedures as defined by Roe. If you accept his voting record as well as his public speeches and policy statements, Obama will apparently do just about anything and everything he can to preserve a women's right to affordable and unfettered abortion on demand as promoted by tax subsidized abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Indeed, Obama's explicit even enthusiastic support for abortion on demand has rightly earned him a 100% rating from NARAL (National Abortion & Reproductive Rights Action League) Pro-Choice America as well as an enthusiastic endorsement from Planned Parenthood the largest abortion provider in the US. In contrast, Obama not surprisingly has received a rating of 0% by the NRLC (National Right to Life Committee) the largest and most influential nonprofit prolife advocacy organization.

Obama's wife Michelle who is his closest political advisor is also pro choice and strongly supports a women's right to abortion on deman. Like her husband Mrs. Obama who also graduated from Harvard law school holds extreme views on abortion and wrote a controversial fund raising letter defending a partial birth abortion procedure known as "intact dilation and evacuation", a contentious late-term abortion technique. In her letter she called partial birth abortion a "legitimate medical procedure" and declared the federal ban "a flawed law" that "is clearly unconstitutional". However, the Supreme Court in 2007 disagreed with her albeit narrowly upholding the ban with a vote of 5-4.

As for Obama's voting record as an Illinois legislator he opposed the bill to ban partial birth abortion and the state's "Born Alive Infants Protection Act" that ensures the rights of children who survive failed abortion attempts. He also voted against legislation banning state funding for abortions. In fact Obama has never supported any limitation of abortion to either lessen its availability or reduce its public funding. He has made it unambiguously clear that he opposes any and all government restrictions on abortion, including partial-birth abortions. Obama even strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the federal law banning partial-birth abortion and in 2007 also voted to expand research on embryonic stem cells. Obama seems to hold a rather extreme position on abortion that is widely considered outside the mainstream. Most Americans support for abortion is highly conditional and overwhelmingly (71%) reject unrestricted abortion viewing abortion as a profound moral issue that should be limited with reasonable regulation by the government preferably at the state and local levels. Only about 28% of Americans support abortion at any time for any reason.

To circumvent the mainstream Obama along with 18 other pro abortion senators has sponsored the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and in July 2007 Obama gave an impassioned speech to a Planned Parenthood Action Fund event promising "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act." The passage of FOCA would essentially nullify every federal, state, and local law limiting or regulating abortion including the Hyde Amendment prohibiting federal funding of abortion and the current federal ban on partial birth abortions signed into law in 2003 by President Bush. FOCA besides making abortion on demand a "fundamental right" throughout the United States would simultaneously invalidate all laws on informed consent and parental notification as well as any mandatory waiting periods. It also would eliminate all state restrictions on taxpayer funding of abortions and health safety regulations for abortion clinics. Moreover, in opposition to the first amendment it would require for the first time Catholic and other religious hospitals to provide abortions.

Perhaps Obama's most personally revealing statement regarding abortion was when he said if his daughters "make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." Not exactly a ringing endorsement for family values. In another interview when asked when life begins Obama glibly replied "I don't know" that "is above my pay grade". Now as the 44th President of the United States and new commander in chief, it is surely no longer above his pay grade since he will likely have the opportunity to select the next Supreme Court justice. As for the type of justices he might choose, Obama believes the constitution is a "living document" and is likely to appoint liberal non strict constructionalist to the bench along the lines of Breyer, Ginsberg, and Souter. Obama voted against both of Bush's appointments, Chief Justice John Roberts and Sam Alito each confirmed by comfortable senate margins.

Obama's constitutional philosophy on Supreme Court appointments was aptly revealed when he implored that "we need someone who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it is like to be a young teenage mom". He elaborated saying "the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges." Empathy means "judicial activism" and seems a strange criterion by which to select judges for an intellectual who taught constitutional law for a decade. Ironically, Obama claims he would not have appointed Clarence Thomas, who's only the second African American ever appointed to the court, saying Thomas "was not a strong enough jurist or legal thinker".

Obama orchestrated a brilliant "cult of personality" campaign centered on the banal platitudes of HOPE and CHANGE. His charismatic persona, soaring rhetoric, and ubiquitous campaign slogans of "Change We Can Believe In" and "Audacity of Hope" were overarching themes on which he built his bipartisan presidential bid. Let's all "hope" Obama as "the one we've been waiting for" will indeed bring "change" but not just to America but also to himself with a repudiation of his militant commitment to unrestricted abortion with the appointment of non activist judges that respect our constitution and the inalienable rights of all Americans whether they be born or unborn.

Within days of becoming the historic 44th President of the United States and only a day after the 36th anniversary of Roe v Wade, Obama signed an executive order to reverse the ban on federal aid to international family planning organizations that perform abortions for population control. The policy known as the "Mexico City Policy" bans U.S. taxpayer money from going to international family planning organizations that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion. Anti abortion groups roundly criticized the presidential order. The legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, Douglas Johnson, lamented "President Obama not long ago told the American people that he would support policies to reduce abortions, but today he is effectively guaranteeing more abortions by funding groups that promote abortion as a method of population control". Apparently Obama's campaign mantra "Yes We Can" doesn't apply to policies reducing abortion in the third world. Once again Obama affirms his militant commitment to unrestricted abortion not only in the U.S. but in the rest of the world. This change in US policy doesn't bode well for those that had hoped Obama would govern from the center and moderate his radical support for abortion on demand.

Teenage Abortion Dangers - Warning For Teens And Parents

The rate of abortion among teenage girls has been going down recently. It was quite high in the seventies, but became stable in the eighties. The rate of abortions among teenage girls has come down especially in the nineties. In 1990, about 26.5 teenagers among 1000 went in for an abortion. In 2000, only 14.5 among 1000 teenagers terminated an unwanted pregnancy by abortion.

The rate of abortion among adolescents also depends on their race. The abortion rate among black teens is more than the abortion rate among Hispanic or White teens. While the number of abortions for every 1000 White girls between the ages of 15 and 19 is 14.8, the rate for Hispanic teenage girls is 30.3 percent. The rate among Blacks is the highest with around 57.4 teens going in for an abortion per 1000 black teenage girls aged from 15 to 19.

Age is also an important factor influencing the rate of abortion. Girls in their late teens are more likely to go in for an abortion than girls in their early teens. Out of 1000 girls aged from 15 to 17, about 14.5 get an abortion. But only 0.9 out of 1000 girls below the age of fourteen go in for an abortion. The rate of abortions among girls aged eighteen and nineteen is the highest at 37.7 every 1000 teenage girls.

The factors driving teenagers to an abortion clinic are as diverse as those driving adult women to get an abortion. A teenage girl usually goes in for an abortion to terminate an abrupt and unplanned pregnancy. A number of social factors also drive teenaged girls to the abortion clinic. These factors could be religious beliefs, conditions at home, and also the social stigma associated with being an unwed mother.

Many teenage girls are of the opinion that they are not ready to handle the burden of parenthood. Some feel that an unwanted pregnancy could have an adverse effect on their social life. Many teens abort an unwanted fetus because they want to focus on their education and proceed to college. A lot of teenagers are worried about the financial troubles they might have to face if they have a baby.

Abortion is less hazardous to the life of a teenager than unexpected motherhood. The incidence of premature birth and low weight of the baby among teenage girls is high. Most teenage girls have unhealthy eating habits, and this could create a lot of damage to the baby. The tendency of teenagers to keep their weight down during pregnancy by dieting, purging, and sometimes even skipping meals can create health problems not only to the teenage mother, but also to her unborn baby.

In addition, teenage pregnancy and childbirth is associated with several complications and problems. In developed countries, most complications are rectified by a cesarean surgery. However, in many developing countries, teenage mothers can suffer from obstetric fistula or eclampsia. Besides, teen pregnancy is associated with a higher rate of maternal and infant mortality.

PAS - Post Abortion Syndrome: Myth or Reality?

In the field of Psychology a new term PAS (Pot Abortion Syndrome) is slowly becoming a term attributed to post abortion after effects. While abortion issue is very politicized, and some may see PAS as a complete myth, some studies show that woman indeed can be deeply affected by the abortion.

While not in every woman the signs of post abortion aftermath are the same. These signs can range from mild grief to profound complication which may include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The post abortion aftermath can manifest it self by the following sings:

Low Self Esteem- Women who have gone through an abortion may develop low self esteem and may even believe that they deserve bad things happening to them.

Guilt- Although at the time of abortion woman can be assured that she is making the right decision, later in life she may be overwhelmed with guilt over he abortion.

Depression- Some women may feel depression after the abortion.

Grief- Many women find themselves grieving after an abortion

Nightmares- Many woman have reported seeing nightmares after an abortion.

Flashbacks- Flashbacks of the abortion procedure can be triggered by the noise vacuum cleaners that reminds them of the suction equipment, and even going to the hospital for other treatments may remind them of abortion.

Relationship Problems- approximately 70% of romantic relationships after abortion.
While the above short list does not exhaust all possible complication that a woman may face after the procedure, these signs should be treated as a serious signs of possible deeper problems. Woman should be allowed to express her feelings and go through the grief process. Even after minor procedure there is a designated time for recovery, except abortion which aftereffects can last for years.

Abortion Through The Centuries

To abort means to stop in between. Aborting hence means to stop forcefully the fetus from developing into a baby.

While many people may think that the controversy surrounding abortion has been only a recent moral issue, abortion has always been a hot topic among even ancient societies. Abortion can be traced to as far back as the ancient Romans and Greeks who were actually great proponents of it; some of the most famous philosophers of the day actually wrote about it positively. There are many texts that exist today that not only argue the benefits of abortion, but also offer recipes and herbs that can be taken to terminate pregnancy.

Massage abortions were practiced in Southeast Asia since at least 1150 AD; a carving was fond in Cambodia representing this practice. There are also records of abortion existing in 12th century Japan. Abortion has seen many phases throughout history, the first written records show ancient civilizations in support of it, but as the Middle Ages progressed many nobles and clergymen began to speak out against it. Pamphlets were written advertising that it was an abominable sin, and many spoke out in the hopes of making it against the law.

Because of this shift in society's perception of abortion, women resorted to very drastic and deadly measures in the hopes of terminating pregnancies. Many women used their girdle to place enormous pressure on their abdomens as a means of terminating pregnancy. The 19th century saw many bans placed upon the practice of abortion; around this time many medical and scientific developments were also taking place which allowed for a sort of back door clinic for women in need of help. Advertisements were placed in newspapers offering things such as herbal pills for a "lady's remedy".

Ann Lohman, or Madame Restell as she was known, was a popular women's activist in the Victorian era who aided women with abortions. During this time in history abortions were illegal, so her job was very dangerous and secretive. She had clinics in both Boston and Philadelphia and was under constant scrutiny from law enforcement agencies. She placed a number of ads offering pills to women who needed to "regulate their menstrual cycle". She also spoke to many women, even those that were married, about the risks of having children and whether or not it was worth the emotional and financial burden. In 1878 she was arrested, but the morning before she was due in court she committed suicide.

Abortion - Wrong?

The Christian Church from the 1st Century has condemned abortion. "You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish." (Paragraph 2271 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church quoting the early church writings.) Prior to the New Testament we have God's Word regarding creation of humans in Psalm 139:13-16. "For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. Again in Jeremiah 1:5 we read: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you."

Biologically, after only a few weeks, it is clear that the differentiation of the zygote (single cell fertilized egg) is a developing human being. The three tissue groups, the ectoderm (skin, nervous system, glands) the mesoderm ( muscles, bone) and the endoderm (gut, & internal organs) are well developed. A heart beat can be detected before the woman looks pregnant.

In spite of all this evidence some refuse to acknowledge that God has created a new human life in a mother's womb; because it is not yet born. Human experience also confirms life after conception. Human experience reinforces the fact that abortion is evil and usually has serious consequences. My experience in ministering to ladies for over 30 years in prayer ministry sessions is this: Abortion and incest sins rank highest in destructive consequences for the woman.

Incest is obvious and quickly recognized as wrong, however; abortion is unfortunately often more subtle in its destructive consequences. A woman can have an "unclean" feeling and is constantly washing her hands or doing some other act to assuage the haunting guilt that she experiences. People in abortion clinics (nurses, employees) statistically have much higher psychological problems such as guilt and stress. It is so disabling to some that they have to quit their jobs.

Mother Theresa of Calcutta was asked on a U.S. national interview. "What do you think is America's greatest problem?" With little hesitation she said one word "abortion". After the surprised response from the interviewer she went on to explain. If a country that condones killing unborn children and their mothers approve this, then the country is in serious trouble because of such a lack of respect for a new life.

This repudiation of God's miraculous gift of new life has its consequences. Incidentally someone once charted a graph showing a lock step correlation with the number of abortions and the economic decline that has occurred since the Roe vs. Wade ruling sanctioned increased abortions.

So serious in the eyes of the Church is abortion that excommunication is possibility. I quote the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Paragraph 2272: "Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of ex-communication "latae sentential" by the very commission of the offense and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as the parents and whole society."

It seems clear to the Catholic Church that abortion is murder of a helpless human life, in utero, for she says this in the Catechism in paragraph 2273: The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of civil society and its legislation: The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority. These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents: nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state: they belong to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his origin. Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard every human being's right to life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death.

Paragraph 2274 makes it clear that from conception the person... the embryo and fetus, must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, just like any other human being.

Abortion - Is It Simply a Matter of 'For Abortion' Or 'Against Abortion'?

I came across a website the other day that deals with what it describes as 'religious tolerance' in the matter of abortion. One of the points it makes is that our fondness for dichotomy means that we simplify the issue of abortion into two camps, pro-abortion and pro-life and by so doing we misunderstand the complexities of the subject. Examples it uses are us vs them, religious versus secular worldviews, theists versus atheists etc. The reality, it goes on to say, is that there are at least four categories of views on abortion with a subsequent host of sub-categories. This got me thinking - is this true? Is it a matter of for or against or is it more complex? Is this sort of argument simply wishy-washy liberalism or does it have merit?

Well, let's look at it. For the purposes of this discussion we will confine ourselves to the four different viewpoints identified.

The pro-life movement - this view holds that human life is generated at the point of contraception. There are some conflicts in this group with regard to issues such as danger to the mother's life, rape, incest etc and there is no doubt that this gives rise to some disagreement within this group. We can note that most religious views can be found here.
The anti-abortion movement - these are people who hold pro-life views but who are prepared to adopt extreme tactics (violence, threats etc) to see their view imposed.
The pro-choice movement - this view teaches that the foetus becomes human at some point in its gestation. Usually this will be identified as the point where sentience is achieved.
The pro-abortion movement - the article identifies this view only to say that it does not exist. A strange 'fourth view', I have to say.

So what can we say about this analysis? Well, firstly, it is clear that the article itself admits that there are not four points, merely three. Therefore, let's discount point four altogether - it seems to have been created simply to add weight to the argument. Secondly, let's look at the difference between viewpoints numbers 2 and 3. On closer inspection it becomes clear that there is no difference in viewpoint simply in strategy, one option preferring to remain within the confines of the legal system, the other to do 'whatever it takes'. In terms of is 'is abortion right or wrong?' there is no difference.

So, in reality, there are, in fact, only two viewpoints that you can take on abortion. It is either right or it is wrong. This is fairly obvious when you think about it as, given that both viewpoints disallow murder, the fundamental difference between the respective viewpoints is disagreement as to the point at which we become human. Ironically, the only complex issues arise within the pro-life camp and concern the question of whether there are circumstances where we can be justified in taking a life. (eg victims of rape, danger to the mother etc). This is made so complex because, in the case of rape, for instance, the foetus itself can also be said to be a victim of rape - it is certainly totally innocent, and if you believe that you are human at conception then surely (if you are pro-life)then you are promoting institutionalised murder. Really, everything flows from this. My own feeling is that even this is not central to the issue and that if you believe the foetus is another human being, you can never allow abortion. Does that sound extreme? Possibly, but for me it is the only choice that makes sense.

Having struggled through this argument, I came to realise that the aim of the article is not to debate the merits or otherwise of abortion but to encourage consensus. Personally, I agree with tolerance but I do not agree with consensus for consensus sake - such an approach is the road to social and moral chaos. My final conclusions, therefore, are that the article in question is indeed more liberal wishy-washy than worthwhile contribution to the debate. It seems to argue that we should allow everyone to think what they want to think and not call them names. This sounds great and even-handed but the truth is that societies must have some shared values that the majority agree should be enforced. This argument is not about whether we should let everybody think what they want to think and act as they want to act but about the nature of the values we share.

Methods Of Abortion - Four Methods Of Abortion For You To Choose From

Varied methods are used by a doctor to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion is induced via a chemical or surgical procedure. The method of abortion chosen is directly related to the stage of pregnancy- early weeks, first trimester (term of 3 months), or second trimester - and the pregnant woman's preference.

(1) The chemical method simply means giving abortifacient (substance to bring about abortion) drugs to the patient concerned. This method of abortion is given preference over the surgical one by the mother-to-be. The drug administered is called the 'abortion pill'. Two oral drugs known as mifepristone and misoprostol are combined for the procedure. Also called RU-486, mifepristone puts a halt to the activity of the body's progesterone. As a result, the embryo separates from the uterus and bleeding takes place. Once this begins, misoprostol (one dose) is advised. The tablet induces uterine contractions, thus expelling the unborn fetus.

This method of abortion can be adopted only within the first 2 months of pregnancy in spite of being 95% effective and very safe in nature. In rare cases, the patient may need to end the treatment with a surgical procedure.

(2) Where surgical procedures are concerned, three methods of abortion are possible for terminating the pregnancy during the first three months of pregnancy. They are:

(a) After the cervix is dilated, the embryo is scraped off the walls of the uterus with the aid of a curette (sharp instrument). This is called Dilation and Curettage.

(b) Another method is MVA (Manual Vacuum Aspiration) where after dilating the cervix, the doctor removes the embryonic tissue via a syringe with the help of suction.

(c) Similar to the above is Electric Vacuum Aspiration. The syringe is replaced with an electric pump.

(3) There are three choices offered again where termination of pregnancy during the second trimester is concerned:

(a) The first method of abortion is D&E or Dilation and Evacuation. After dilating the cervix, the uterine walls are scraped with instruments. Finally, the embryonic tissue is removed with the help of suction.

(b) Another method is Hysterotomy or surgical incision of the uterus (similar to cesarean section), where the aborted fetus is removed.

(c) Intact Dilation and Extraction or Partial Birth Abortion is still under some controversy. The cervix is dilated. A forceps is used to reverse the fetus into a breech position. A suction device is inserted into the fetus' skull after a cut is made at its base. The device evacuates the brain tissue present inside.

(4) Though there is another method of abortion, which was very popular till the time anesthetics and surgery were invented, that is, the 19th century, it is neither advocated nor approved by the medical fraternity. This is the herbal method of abortion and is generally considered unsafe. So maybe it would be wiser to stay away from it altogether.

Abortion in Mexico

Abortion, always a controversial issue under any circumstances. Perhaps in Latin America is a debate more difficult to resolve.

In Mexico, abortion has been dealt with very superficially, the Mexicans have a deep-rooted philanthropy, this prevents them from having an open and unbiased opinion on such issues. The authorities fear the political costs of supporting laws legalizing this practice and have chosen to ignore the issues related to abortion. Accordingly place Mexico as a country with a large backlog in health safety on abortion.

Is sufficient to observe situations that are truly sad, as one recently in the state of Baja California, where a woman is sentenced to 23 years in prison for miscarriage. According to the woman, her abortion was not intentional, but even so the authorities showing his misogyny, have condemned her and other women under similar circumstances.

In Mexico, abortion is only legal under 7 conditions:

1) In case of rape.

2) When abortion is caused accidentally.

3) When the pregnancy threatens the woman's life and believes that the baby has no or little chance of living.

4) When it detects that the fetus has genetic defects.

5) When continuing the pregnancy would cause serious harm to the health of the woman, who has other children.

6) If the pregnancy is the result of artificial insemination unwanted and forced.

7) When the economy does not allow women to keep the baby, already mother of at least three children.

In these circumstances only the violation is accepted throughout the country, while the accidental abortion is accepted only in 29 of the 32 states. Only one of all states is abortion legal where justified by economic reasons. Only in the capital of the country is permitted abortion in case of women's own decision.

Of the 32 entities that make the Mexican Republic, only one fully decriminalized abortion. In Mexico City, abortion is legal only when performed before 12 weeks gestation.

In a highly religious country with a largely Catholic population, it is no surprise that abortion under any terms is neglected. There are even groups who disapprove of abortion in cases of rape.

The issue of abortion in Mexico, but a legal issue, is affected by the idiosyncrasies of this country. While it is legal in the country's capital, many women practice abortion as strictly confidential for fear of rejection that society might have.

People care more for the sin of abortion than for medical or legal terms. The church has consistently obstructed the authorities on legal matters. Many associations advocate abortion, not as a legal matter and make it a moral issue.

Abortion is an issue that divides opinions. In Mexico puts face to face: the laws against beliefs. The abortion appears to be the most controversial issue in Mexico and more difficult to treat.

Abortion Pros and Cons

Abortion pros and cons

When the topic of abortion comes up there is almost always a heated argument between both sides. There are pros and cons to abortion s some see it. In general, here are the pros and cons most often mentioned day those on both sides of the fence.

Abortion Pros

It is a woman's right to choose to do what she wants to with her own body. Those who hold to this argument say no one should be able to make a decision on what a woman can do with her own body. Those on the abortion pro side look at it as an inalienable human right. Of course, those on the abortion con side would retort, "The life of the baby is an inalienable human right that cannot be discarded."

Those on the abortion con side might also argue that abortion takes care of the problem. Many on the abortion pro camp have been quoted as saying, "Once it is done it is done." Again, on the other side of the argument, they would say that nothing can be further from the truth. Research does in fact bear out what has even been formally diagnosed as Post Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS). It is hard to deny that a woman is bound to go through tremendous emotional and physical stress after having undergone an abortion.

Abortion Cons

Those that are in the abortion con camp would say first and foremost that this is human life and it begins at conception. It is not an organism or unfeeling "fetus," but a living, breathing life. If in fact this is the case then abortion is murdering a human being. That is the primary assertion for those in this camp. The abortion pros would argue that life begins at different generally accepted but arbitrary periods. In truth, this argument cannot hold up to real science.

Abortion cons would also say that organizations that perform abortions do so for the money and disguise this as a commitment to the welfare of the mother but a look behind the scenes does tell the real story. That is why pro life organizations encourage a woman to at least get an ultra sound before making the choice to have an abortion.

These are just a few of the many pros and cons of abortion. If you would like to learn more or may be considering having an abortion then you may want to check out the link below.

Abortion and How to Select a Proper Clinic

If you have finally decided to get an abortion done, finding a legally operating abortion hospital can be difficult, because of the people who are promoting their clinics as abortion centers are under the management of anti-abortion institutions. Whatever the manner in which you are searching, you will find health centers for women operating side-by-side abortion centers, the former ones sustaining women's reproductive options, making it difficult for you to decide which one to opt for. Let us be clear, that such centers will not help you because they are all working towards reversing your decision to get an abortion, and they will delay the procedure to such an extent that it will be too late and hence risky to terminate the pregnancy.

A good clinic will either be able to terminate your pregnancy at their centre, or will ask you to reach a particular abortionist. Such clinics will have stated in their websites or promos that they offer referrals for abortion, or they can terminate pregnancy in their centre.

It is also confusing to reach correct information online, about the procedures and ways to get the abortion done. When you search on internet seeking abortion, you will be flooded with results which will guide you to centers dispensing medical knowledge on the process, primarily created to frighten you to give up the idea.

While searching on the internet, the result may not lead you to services for abortion; instead they may try to change your mind by sending you to people who have that intention in mind. There are many organizations in the USA that are working towards anti-abortion, and pro-life, which is a great obstacle in getting legal abortions.

Many websites that you may visit during your search will only be promoting Pro-life thoughts, but you can easily read through their intentions. Once the website talks about the risks involved in terminating a pregnancy, and the regrets that woman will have to undergo later, you are sure it is an anti-abortion website. Sometimes visuals of abortion are displayed to frighten you, and even go to the extent of suggesting that an abortion may lead to other health complications like breast cancer. They will also blow up after-effects of abortion, like damages to your interior organs, scarring which is a rarity, since abortions are undertaken by professionals who are trained to handle such situations.

Only a few health centers offer you either a referral service or terminate the pregnancy in their facility. Some clinics are anti-abortion, and they will never refer you to a place where you can get the service. In fact many such centers are known to discourage abortion and encourage adoption.

Getting an abortion is indeed difficult, especially in the wake of the fact that in the USA over 85 counties don't have a legal abortion service. Though, it is a legal process in the USA for over 30 years, the laws vary from county to county, depending on your age. The laws proclaim that as an adult, (18+), the choice of reproduction is a right conferred on you. For a teenager, consent for your abortion from your parents may not be required in some states and it may be required in some others, depending on your correct age and where you are residing.

After having chosen the right place to get the services for termination of pregnancy, you should clearly distinguish between the medical procedure and surgical procedure of the abortion, and opt for the one which suits your condition.
